Melbourne 3

I'm fast running out of rubbish stories to tell, so let's go for interesting stuff instead.

Recently, my high school group of friends got together (without me, I was in Melbourne) and apparently had some table talk about personality tests. You can take one here. That one is a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), an assessment categorising sixteen personality types. Letting out my secret, the results I got 2 years ago is still the same when I took it 2 nights ago- INFP: introversion, intuition, feeling, perception. I must say this is one of the more accurate psychology tests out there... uncannily accurate. It seems like JRR Tolkien, John Lennon, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are amongst some notable INFPs... maybe that's why I admire/respect them so much.

A couple of my friends are of the same type too, so the test is not just for introspecting, but also to understand friends and family, which can be useful. Those having problems with relationships? Definitely should check out each other's personalities and work out how to compromise from there. I might be asking some of you for your type after this, just out of curiosity.

Back to Melbourne:

7pm

MoVida Aqui was one of the places that we really wanted to try out every time, but never manage to because it's just so popular that you need to book ahead. Very ahead. Even though B booked a few weeks ahead, the main MoVida was completely out, so we went for Aqui. Different menu, but that's alright. We started the night with a sangria. Not the best sangria (the one at Sydney, Petersham, had crazy good sangria with tons of chopped fresh fruits), but a nice start. Open kitchen allowed for good view of fine chefs food.

And naturally, Stanley was chucking a hissy fit, but at least the photos weren't all... red =P He did take a blurry photo of the Pincho though, shock horror. Guess he couldn't see in the dark, couldn't figure out what I wanted him to focus on =( The food itself was definitely worth the visit and the anticipation though! A lot of the tapas on the menu were served straight from the tin like the chipirones (stuffed squid cooked in their own ink), but the highlight were definitely the mains.

We ordered carrilera de buey: slowly braised beef cheek in Pedro Ximenez on cauliflower puree. That was just heaven on a plate- at first glance, it looks like a piece of black charred meat sitting on top of the puree, but once you break into it- and mind you, that required only the slightest pressure of a spoon, and you'll find the meat that is so tender and flavorsome just break away. At the first bite, you'll forgive its ugly appearance. Heck, you'll forgive your nemesis and archenemies and anything that annoys you.

The other main, pastel de codorniz: quail & morcilla in house made puff pastry with an Agridulce sauce was divine as well, but definitely did not make quite as big an impact as the beef cheek. We wanted to get the Aproz Negro: bomba rice Cooked with cuttlefish & squid ink, served with alioli, which sounds absolutely gorgeous, but it was a huge serving, 40 minutes wait... we decided it was better to get a variety.

Taking a break from food, because despite what I might make it out to be like, Melbourne isn't just about food.

7am
It was back in the car for another 3 hours, towards the 12 Apostles. Crazy drivers galore, road kills strewn all over the roads, thankfully none caused by us. I don't think I have ever appreciated road trips... till this one. Maybe it's because I was forced to stay awake (guilt tripped, made responsible, name it what you will, but definitely against my nature) for pretty much the whole drive down that I could actually see the scenery flying past instead of being knocked out unconscious in the back seat. Must admit though, it was beautiful, watching the interweaving colours of the blue sky, orange clouds, green fields and the grey roads paint themselves into a picturesque artwork.

Destination: Melbourne 4 to come.

It was not a guilt trip - you were free to sleep - you just had to move to the back :), front seat needs to keep the driver company - not our fault you only gave it up to B.
